With hopes that my rhymes (and the 2Day 30 mile walk) will be as smooth as The Clovers’ original 1959 recording...
(to the tune of Love Potion Number 9 for the youngins)
I’ll take my sneakers down to Peachtree Road
And check into our weekend walk abode.
We’re gonna walk thirty miles for your dime
Doin’ It’s the Journey’s walk for my tenth time.
2011 was my first, it’s true,
But it’s been running since 2002.
We’ve walked many miles and we’ll continue to climb
Doin’ It’s the Journey’s walk for my tenth time.
We’ll walk down and turn around and do it again
These are miles we have walked and seen and already been.
We’ll smell like turpentine, we’ll look like the walking dead,
But when we’re done, we’ll sleep so well in our soft bed.
We won’t know if it is day or night
We’ll be stretching everything in sight
But when we do the walk – thirty miles – for your dime
We’ll be fighting breast cancer for my tenth time.
For the tenth time, I am participating in the Atlanta 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer. In just five weeks, on October 7th and 8th, I, along with hundreds of other walkers will spend two days walking thirty miles to raise money to combat breast cancer. While 2020 was a virtual walk due to COVID and 2021 was a one day/10 mile walk, for 2023 we are back to form as we were in 2022 with a full on, two day/30 mile walk.
As the daughter and niece of three breast cancer survivors, as well as a friend and friend of a friend of many other survivors, I am honored to be able to help through this event. The money raised by It's the Journey stays within Georgia to help fund people and programs all over the state.
As in years past, my team is TTFE - TATAS FOR EVER. While our team has fluctuated in size from one to five in the past, this year we are three fantastic team members with a combined goal to raise at least $15,000.00. Given this special year - celebrating my 10th year participating in the 2 Day - my personal goal is to raise at least $10,000.00. Given the amazing generosity of you all last year, raising over $6,700 and placing me as the seventh highest fundraiser out of over 800 participants, I’m confident we can reach this increased goal. In fact, with your continued support I know we can meet, or better yet, exceed these goals, as we have in every year past for the last TEN walks!
